Urinary tract problems
Cats often suffer from lower urinary tract diseases. These are diseases that occur in the ureters, the bladder, or the urethra. A major cause of urinary tract problems is the formation of bladder stones. If your pet suffers from bladder stones, your vet will usually prescribe a special diet and/or drugs, as well as provide advice for general care.
Royal Canin Urinary S/O
Diet plays an important role in the treatment of bladder stones or urinary crystals. Therefore, your vet will usually prescribe a special food, such as Royal Canin Urinary S/O Diet. Royal Canin Urinary S/O Diet is specially designed to support the treatment of lower urinary tract disorders. Royal Canin Urinary S/O Diet helps dissolve struvite stones/crystals (urinary crystals) and prevent new ones from forming. This diet also prevents the formation of calcium oxalate.
Recommended for:
Dissolving struvite stones (use for at least 5 to 12 weeks).
Preventing recurrent formations of struvite and calcium oxalate.
In cats with recurrent urinary tract problems with no known cause (idiopathic cystitis), the wet food is recommended.
Key features:
Due to the special composition of Royal Canin Urinary S/O, effective dissolution of struvite stones is possible. The amount of urine increases, due to the slightly increased sodium content which requires more moisture absorption. As a result, the concentration of crystal-forming components in the urine is limited, and the risk of urinary calculi forming is reduced. The composition can prevent the formation of both struvite and calcium oxalate, and enable the dissolution of existing struvite. The addition of GAGs (glycosaminoglycans) to Royal Canin Urinary S/O may support the bladder wall of cats with urinary tract problems.
